Norsk språkIn order to deepen team integration, create new morale, and develop a positive, productive workplace culture, OPTO-EDU organized a “Journey Through Sea and City” team-building retreat in November 2025. Employees left their normal work to explore the beautiful sea and city of Pingtan Island and the culture of Fuzhou (the perfect combination of natural beauty and nostalgia).
Stop One: Pingtan Island – Where the Sea Meets the Soul
Pingtan is the closest site on China to Taiwan, its coastlines, legendary “Blue Tears”, and soft island vibe. One of the most impressive features of our trip was the famous “68 Nautical Miles” area of Taiwan. Standing at the overlook looking up at the Taiwan Strait we were overwhelmed by the amount of sea and the ties to our cultures.
On Pingtan’s golden beaches, we gathered for a group photo—smiles, sunshine, and sea breeze captured in a single frame, symbolizing the warmth and unity of the OPTO-EDU family.
Stop Two: Fuzhou – Crafting Heritage, Savoring Local Flavors
From the island we visited Fuzhou, Fujian Province, as we had to get an experience with the historic people. One of my favorite experiences was in an art workshop on traditional lacquer fan making, one of the natural cultural practices of Fuzhou. The local artist blended natural lacquer and mineral pigments with a marbling and freehand painting of these colors, making them one of a kind shimmering fans. But this really was a work from China.
Of course, no trip to coastal Fujian would be complete without eating its finest seafood. We had to be served with crunchy oyster omelets; springy, flavorful fish balls, and most importantly, freshly caught local fish, grilled on the spot and packed with ocean flavor. The food was the best.
Recharged and Reconnected, Ready for What’s Ahead
This trip was more than relaxing—it fostered confidence, conversations, and the relationships that have powered our team. The laughs on the beach, the focus of the craft session, and of the dinner party all reflect the spirit we aim at fostering for OPTO-EDU.
Looking ahead we remain people-first—in the good work, in the better-being of employees, in general, in a good friendship between ourselves. When we leave our desks, we come back with lots of energy, old memories, and shared excitement to tackle new tasks together.
